SUBARU Recalls

2023–2025 SUBARU SOLTERRA

Due to the programming of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control ECU software. Under certain conditions, such as a specific failure mode of the electric compressor, the HVAC system will enter a failsafe mode that suspends the heater operation of the system and affects defroster function.

2023 SUBARU MY23 Forester , MY23 Outback, MY24 Crosstrek

The front drive shaft may not meet manufacturing specifications and the outer race of the front driveshaft may crack. If this occurs, the vehicle will stop operating while in motion.

2021–2022 SUBARU MY2021 OUTBACK

Due to a manufacturing issue, the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) inhibitor switch may not be sealed sufficiently allowing moisture to enter potentially causing corrosion of the circuit board. As a result, the reverse lamps may not illuminate and/or the rear-view camera may not display the rear-view image whilst reversing as intended.

2021–2022 SUBARU MY 2022-23 - BRZ

Due to a potential design concern with the rear tail lights control circuit, the turn and hazard indicators lamps may not illuminate as intended.

2015–2021 SUBARU WRX STI STI

The reverse lamps may not illuminate and the rear-view reverse camera may not display the rearwards image when reversing as intended.

2015–2018 SUBARU 2015-2018 Liberty, Outback, Levorg & WRX/ 2017-2019 Impreza & XV

Due to a manufacturing issue, the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) adaptor cord connector may not operate as intended. This could result in vehicle moving or rolling away whilst the vehicle is engaged in the park position.

2020–2021 SUBARU MY21 OUTBACK

Due to the incorrect software logic being installed on the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) the post collision brake control function may not operate as intended and fail to apply the brakes automatically after a collision.

2020–2021 SUBARU MY21 Outback

Due to a software issue in the pre-collision braking system of the EyeSight® System, the pre-collision braking feature may be activated unexpectedly.

2018–2019 SUBARU BRZ, WRX, LEVORG 1.6, LEVORG 2.0, LIBERTY 3.6, OUTBACK 3.6 and FORESTER XT

The fuel pump impeller may not meet manufacturing specifications, as a result it may become deformed. This may cause the fuel pump to stop working and may lead to the vehicle stalling.

2017–2020 SUBARU FORESTER, XV

The rear stabiliser bracket bolts may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. In this case, the bolts may become loose over time and/or fall out during normal vehicle usage.

2016–2020 SUBARU IMPREZA, XV

Due to improper Engine Control Module (ECM) programming, the ignition coil may overheat, creating a short circuit which may blow the ignition coil fuse.

2021 SUBARU OUTBACK

The stereo camera may mis-recognise roadside objects and/or miscalculate the travelling direction of an oncoming vehicle, resulting in the system unexpectedly activating the pre-collision braking feature.

2020–2021 SUBARU OUTBACK

The electronic brake booster (EBB) may be incorrectly set up, and may not operate correctly.

2018–2019 SUBARU IMPREZA, XV

Due to incorrect manufacture, in the event of an accident one of the two locking mechanisms in the vehicle's rear seat belts may not lock the seat belt as designed.

2018–2019 SUBARU FORESTER

Over time the aluminium positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may fracture, allowing the engine to draw an increased amount of engine oil. This may cause excessive exhaust smoke and possibly unexpected loss of engine power.

2016–2019 SUBARU XV & IMPREZA

Over time the aluminium positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may fracture, allowing the engine to draw an increased amount of engine oil. This may cause excessive exhaust smoke and possibly unexpected loss of engine power.

2016–2019 SUBARU IMPREZA & XV

Due to improper Engine Control Module (ECM) programming, the ignition coil may overheat, creating a short circuit and blowing the fuse.

2017–2019 SUBARU LIBERTY, OUTBACK, FORESTER, TRIBECA, EXIGA, IMPREZA

The spare part ignition switch may have imperfections in its ball springs. In the long term these imperfections may result in the failure of the ignition switch, which may cause the key position to inadvertently move from the "ON" position to the "ACC" position while the car is moving.

2017–2019 SUBARU IMPREZA

The left hand rear door window glass may have been inadequately tempered, due to an improper cooling process during manufacture.

2008–2015 SUBARU IMPREZA, XV, FORESTER, WRX & WRX STI

The Stop Light Switch may be affected by contaminants from outside the vehicle and could cause electrical contact points to malfunction.

2017–2018 SUBARU OUTBACK

Affected vehicles have been fitted with an oil pipe with a smaller interior pipe diameter than required. This may result in insufficient oil supply to the turbocharger’s turbine bearing, which may lead to the turbine bearing wearing prematurely, or in the worst case, the bearing may seize causing the turbine blade to fracture.

2017–2018 SUBARU OUTBACK & LIBERTY

The driving range indicator may provide inaccurate information about the distance that may be driven before refuelling, due to a programming error in the Combination Meter Display (CMD) unit. The low fuel warning light will still illuminate when the fuel level is critically low.

2012–2013 SUBARU IMPREZA, XV, FORESTER & BRZ

Vehicles may have a defective engine valve spring. If a valve spring fractures, the engine may stall and may not be able to be restarted.

2009–2014 SUBARU LIBERTY AND OUTBACK

If the electronic parking brake (EPB) circuit board fractures, the warning light will illuminate and the EPB cannot be applied or released. If this happens, the vehicle may be in breach of the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) for motor vehicles.

0 SUBARU LIBERTY, OUTBACK, IMPREZA

The fuel pump harness connector on affected vehicles may deteriorate over time. This may lead to the non-operation of the fuel pump, causing extended engine cranking time on start up, no engine start, or in a worst case scenario, engine stall.

2012–2014 SUBARU FORESTER

In affected vehicles the wiring loom may touch the clutch pipe. In a worst case scenario the clutch pipe may rub through the wiring loom insulation creating a short circuit that may cause the engine to stall and not restart.

2003–2007 SUBARU IMPREZA

Some replacement passenger front airbag inflators installed in MY 2004-2007 Impreza vehicles as part of the current Takata recall campaign (SI0277) may have been installed incorrectly (in reverse).

2014–2015 SUBARU WRX & WRX STI

If cargo contacts the underside of the subwoofer that protrudes into the boot area in certain MY15 WRX and WRX STI vehicles, an electrical short circuit may be created and this may cause the subwoofer to overheat.

The reverse camera screen in the infotainment unit may freeze when the gear selector is in reverse.

0 SUBARU Liberty, Impreza & Forester

Certain affected vehicles may contain a potentially faulty secondary air pump relay.

2009–2014 SUBARU Liberty and Outback

The front windscreen wiper motor bottom cover may melt.

2013–2015 SUBARU BRZ

The poor electrical connection may cause the vehicle to lose power assistance for the steering of the vehicle.

2014–2015 SUBARU LIBERTY & OUTBACK

The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) motor may “stick” post engagement of the EPB (for example when parking) and the EPB may not be able to be subsequently released.

2014–2016 SUBARU WRX STI & FORESTER

The air intake ducts may develop cracks.

2014–2015 SUBARU IMPREZA and XV

The starter motor pinion gear may be damaged due to an unusual start-up procedure.

2006–2014 SUBARU TRIBECA

The bonnet may not latch correctly when closing due to corrosion or lubricant congealing.

2011–2014 SUBARU Impreza/XV AND Forester

The wiring harness malfunction may potentially lead to a short circuit within the vehicle’s electrical systems.

0 SUBARU Liberty and Outback

In the event of a brake lamp switch (BLS) failure in an affected vehicle, the PCB system may not operate as intended in an emergency braking situation, or may fail to properly engage the brakes when the vehicle has been placed in ACC mode. This is due to a software programming issue. The condition does not affect the performance of the brakes when engaged by the driver.

2013–2014 SUBARU FORESTER

In certain conditions vehicles may experience the turbo boost increasing faster than the enrichment of the air/fuel ratio, which may result in Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illumination, rough idling, engine noise, engine mis-fire or engine damage.

0 SUBARU OUTBACK

When the gear selector is set to the “park” position, the parking pawl may not engage and therefore the parking mechanism may not operate properly. In this case (assuming the parking brake has not been applied), the vehicle may roll (depending on parking condition e.g. if parked on an incline). For the sake of clarity, this issue does not affect proper operation of the hand brake and if the hand brake is applied the car will not roll.

0 SUBARU IMPREZA MY12 & FORESTER MY12

In certain instances, the misrouting of the engine wiring harness may interfere with the intake manifold retaining bolt or tumble generator valve.

0 SUBARU Forester, Liberty, Outback

A limited number of 6MT gearboxes were produced without a necessary lubrication supply passage. The lubrication passage is designed to ensure longevity of the transmission, and no damage is sustained during the short term as a result of the passage not being present.

Certain 2010 model year Subaru Liberty and Outback vehicles may experience a wiring fault within the steering roll Connected.

0 SUBARU Liberty, Outback

Certain MY10 Liberty and Outback vehicles fitted with the CVT may experience an oil leak from a faulty oil cooler hose.

0 SUBARU Tribeca

Certain 10MY Tribeca vehicles may experience interference between the front door latch cables and the front door window regulators when the windows are operated possibly resulting in the front door/s unlatching and opening unexpectedly.

0 SUBARU Impreza sedan, Impreza hatch

Some genuine towbars fitted to 08MY & 09MY Subaru Impreza vehicles may have been produced with inadequate welding on the tow ball mount (TBM - commonly known as the towing tongue or goose-neck).

0 SUBARU Forester

Some Subaru genuine towbars fitted to 09M Subaru Forester vehicles may have been produced with inadequate welding on the tow ball mount (TBM-commonly known as the towing tongue or goose-neck) and/or incorrect specification bolts that anchor the towbar arms to the chassis rails.

0 SUBARU Tribeca

The Vehicle Dynamics Control G sensor on the affected vehicles may have been installed in the incorrect position at the time of manufacture which may cause the VDC system to malfunction when activated, leading to the vehicle becoming unstable. The VDC system will only activate when the vehicle is being driven close to its performance and handling capabilities.

0 SUBARU Tribeca

FHI (Subaru Japan) have determined that the front lateral link in the rear suspension of 07MY, 08MY and certain 09MY Tribeca vehicles may crack and if left unchecked could, in time, break. There is a safety risk associated with this condition. If the lateral link were to break the rear suspension would experience lack of 'toe' control and the driver may consequently lose control of the vehicle.

0 SUBARU Liberty GT, Liberty GT spec. B, Liberty GT spec. tuned by STI, Impreza WRX,

The vehicles may have been produced with the turbo charger oil supply pipe deformed due to misalignment during the assembly process. If the pipe is deformed, vibration experienced during normal driving could result in a crack developing in the pipe over time, causing an engine oil leak.

0 SUBARU Impreza Hatch

Certain 2001-2003 MY Subaru Impreza hatches may have been manufactured with tailgate struts (also known as tailgate stays) that were inadequately tightened during production. The left and right tailgate struts are designed to support the tailgate when it is placed in an upright position. Each is connected to the tailgate by means of a stud bolt that is attached directly to a welded nut located within the tailgate. If one or both of the stud bolts wwere inadequately tightened, the loose stud bolt may put unintended stress at the area around the welded nut. Over time and after repeated tailgate operation (opening and closing), this condition could result in the welded nut, along with the tailgate strut, separating and detaching from the tailgate causing the tailgate to close unexpectedly.

There is a possibility that an oil leak may develop due to the potential for the subject rubber oil cooler hoses to split under certain operating conditions.

0 SUBARU Impreza WRX, STI

These models are susceptible to interference from high voltage signals either from an external source or due to engine ignition system malfunction or as a result of unauthorised modifications (e.g. high powered stereo systems or ignition systems), which can cause the security system control module to reset and shut down the vehicle.

0 SUBARU Forester

There is a possiblity of the carpet mat slipping towards the cpntrol pedals, consequently interfering with the operation of the throttle pedal. In the worst case, the carpet mat could impeded the throttle pedal from returning to it's original closed position when the driver's foot is removed and as a result the vehicle will continue to accelerate.

0 SUBARU Liberty, Outback

There is a possibility of the rear passenger doors becoming unlatched due to an incorrectly staked lever pivot in the external door handle assembly not returning the door latch to the fully latched position.

0 SUBARU Liberty, Liberty GT sedan & wagon

Potential for the rear sway bar link to contact the union bolt of the brake caliper. The union bolt may then be damaged and a brake fluid leak could result.

0 SUBARU Impreza WRX, Impreza STI

The AVCS Oil Flow control Valve. The potential safety issue is related to the possibility of an oil leak due to insufficient tightening of bolts that secure the valve cover plates.

0 SUBARU Forester

An oil leak may develop due to removal and incorrect reinstallation of an oil cooler hose. The cooler hose may have been removed and reinstalled in the process of installing an additional transmission cooler when a tow bar was fitted.

0 SUBARU Outback H6, Impreza WRX, Impreza WRX STI, Forester GT

A potenial safety issue exists where the cruise control cable can become dislodged resulting in the throttle becoming partially stuck open.

The Parking Pawl mechanism may fail to restrain the vehicle when parked if the handbrake is not correctly applied. If an affected vehicle is restrained in a parking situation by the parking pawl mechanism only, the vehicle may roll away creating an unsafe situation.
