The airbag system in the affected vehicles could experience electrical shorting due to exposure to high inductive electrical noise in the electrical circuit, resulting in damage to the Airbag Sensor Assembly (ECU). This could cause airbag warning lights to illuminate and the front airbag(s) and/or seat belt pretensioner(s) to become deactivated, and/or cause those airbag(s) to deploy inadvertently. Some vehicles in this recall may also contain a faulty Takata airbag inflator: As it gets older, a combination of heat and humidity can cause the airbag inflator propellant to degrade. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure.
