Due to its installation position, if there is liquid or liquid droplets spilt on the rear seat bench the control unit for network management may become damaged and fail. A failure of the electronic control unit may have various effects on the vehicle functions. Restricted functions are indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster. Possible restricted functions could be: Engine – The engine enters emergency running mode and continues running with reduced performance. Gearbox – The automatic gearbox interrupts the power flow in the drive train. Steering – The steering reduces the steering assistance in stages; it may therefore be necessary to use more force to turn the steering wheel as the vehicle slows down.
