Recall date: 1 August 2022
Due to a software issue with the airbag control unit, the airbag warning lamp and warning message may not be illuminated in the instrument cluster as intended. If this occurs the vehicle occupants may not be alerted to the potential failure of the airbag control or pedestrian protection systems.
Absence of an alert to the potential failure of these systems will increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.
BMW will contact owners of affected vehicles to have their airbag control unit software updated free of charge. Note: This is an extension of Recall REC-005427. Owners/Operators who received an older software version as part of REC-005427, must now have the latest software installed. Please contact your preferred BMW Dealer to have the airbag control unit software updated free of charge. Owners can contact their preferred authorised BMW Dealer Service Centre using the recall status web form: www.recall.bmw.com.au. For further information, owners can go to the BMW Australia website and using either their vehicle's VIN or registration, check to see if their vehicle has an outstanding technical action, or an outstanding safety recall via www.recall.bmw.com.au.
