The Electronic Control Unit which controls the power steering operation of the vehicle, may receive unstable voltage output, from the motor angle detecting circuit within the ECU. If this situation occurs the fail safe function of the power steering system may not operate. As a result, the EPS warning lamp will illuminate, the power assist function of the vehicle will not operate and the steering system may require increased force for steering wheel operation.

This condition may occur due to reverse electromotive power from the wiper motor. As a result, the wiper motor condenser may generate heat due to high intermittent current flow and in worse case may ignite.

If the interlock lever is contaminated, the possibility of the ignition key being removed from the ignition switch when the selector lever is not in the Park position exists. As a result, there is a potential the vehicle may move without warning if the handbrake is not applied.
