Engineering investigations have identified a concern with the front suspension strut to knuckle clamping bolt torque. Due to variations in surface finish of the knuckle material in combination with low torque of the clamping bolt, it may be possible for the strut to move in the knuckle. Movement of the strut in the knuckle could possibly result in the tyre contacting the wheel arch or in FWD vehicles the strut contacting the driveshaft.

This condition will occur due to an increase in contact resistance caused by oxidation between the male terminal of the head lamp combination switch and the adjoining terminal coupler. Due to movement between the male and female terminals a build up of dioxide film is created, increasing resistance and causing heat build up to a point where the terminal connector begins to melt.
