Recall date: 1 October 2013
On the rear axle of vehicles fitted with carbon ceramic brakes (CSiC), the stainless steel screws fixing the brake rotor to the metal bell may fail due to corrosion if the vehicle has been used in salty environments.
If one screw fails, the brake will continue to be 100% effective. However, if the affected disc were to lose 8 of the 10 screws, there would be a loss of braking at the rear wheel. This may lead to a small increase in stopping distance, which could cause an accident. Bentley Motors Ltd is not aware of any vehicle losing more than 3 screws worldwide. There have been no screw failures reported in Australia and this action is being undertaken as a precaution. There are no reports worldwide of accidents or injuries resulting from this condition.
Customers will receive notification of this action from their dealers by letter. They should then contact the dealer to arrange for an appointment. The dealer will change the screws to new screws manufactured from a different material that is not susceptible to failure. Letters to customers will be sent in the week commencing 21/10/13.
