Defect

On these vehicles it is possible water may enter the trunk area via the tail light seals during heavy rain or use of a high pressure cleaning device. In isolated cases moisture could also enter the electronic control unit for the tailgate and cause it to malfunction. In extremely unfavourable circumstances localised overheating of the tailgate control unit could also occur.
