Category: Light Vehicle ยท Supplier: Volkswagen Group Australia Pty Ltd
Recall date: 27 November 2019
A faulty condenser may have been fitted inside the airbag control unit.
The faulty condenser can result in either of the following consequences 1. deactivation of the airbag. If the airbag system is switched off, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate. 2. inadvertent activation of airbags or seatbelt pretensioners. The control unit may interpret the faulty condenser as a crash signal (faulty front crash detection), which could cause the airbag(s) and/or seatbelt pretensioner(s) to be triggered incorrectly. If the airbag is deactivated or is inadvertently activated, this increases the risk of an accident and injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users.
Volkswagen will contact affected consumers to organise repairs of affected vehicles, free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles can also contact the Volkswagen Recall Campaign Hotline on 1800 504 076 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-8pm AEST) or visit https://www.volkswagen.com.au/app/locals/find-dealer to arrange a repair.
