Category: Light Vehicle ยท Supplier: Toyota Motor Corporation
Recall date: 17 October 2018
The subject vehicles utilise software to control the hybrid system. This software is designed to put the system into a fail-safe mode, illuminating various warning lights, displaying a warning message and allowing the vehicle to travel a limited distance at reduced power if there is an internal component failure. In limited circumstances, such as hard acceleration immediately after a component fails, there is a possibility the hybrid system could shutdown rather than going into a fail-safe mode. This recall provides an additional remedy to the vehicles involved in the previous recalls in February 2014 (PRA2014/13991) and July 2015 (PRA2015/14822), because the remedy conducted then was found to be inadequate.
If the hybrid system shuts down, this could result in the vehicle losing power while driving, increasing the risk of an accident and injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter or other means from Toyota Australia, asking them to contact a Toyota Dealership to arrange a software update to the Power Management control unit free of charge. Owners who require more information can contact their preferred Toyota Dealer or contact the Toyota Recall Assist Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm AEST).
